On October 25th, melodic progressive death metal band REVERENT TALES from Lisbon, Portugal will drop a new single, “Your Future Died”. It is their first release since the debut album “Visceral” (2020), when they were still a progressive metal band. A lot has happened since COVID, which singer Raquel Nunes will explain in the first of our 5 quick questions about “Your Future Died”.
Questions by: Henk van Nieuwenhoven
REVERENT TALES are not the most productive band from Portugal. Formed in 2018, one single “Above Me” in 2019 and a full-length album “Visceral” in 2020.
“We haven’t been the most productive band in terms of output. We released “Visceral” at the very beginning of COVID, and not being able to promote that record for two years took its toll on us, almost leading to a breakup. To rejuvenate the band, we made some lineup changes, bringing in Paulo Adelino as our new drummer and Carlos Costa as our bass player. With this new stable lineup we are now hard at work on new material. Our focus is on the quality of the songs rather than just the quantity. Often, we create different versions of the same track until everyone is satisfied. It’s also worth noting that the band isn’t our full-time job, so we do our best to continue and grow REVERENT TALES in between other commitments. Despite these challenges, we are very happy with where we’re headed!”
Next Friday, October 25th, there will be a new single out, “Your Future Died”. Does this mean that we can expect a new album in early 2025 as well?
“Short answer, no! 😊 We are still working on our new album. We’re taking our time, and once we have a solid collection of songs we’ll head into the studio to record and share them with you. We’re aiming for the new album to be released sometime in late 2025.”
The sound of REVERENT TALES is set as ‘progressive metal’ on your Facebook page. But this new single sounds more like melodic progressive death metal.
“You’re right! The band originally started as a progressive metal act, but we’ve since evolved into a melodic progressive death metal band. This shift is reflected not only in our new single, but also in the rest of the songs we are currently composing.”
The cover art of “Your Future Died” shows a baby lying in a cot surrounded by a ruined world, is that your future perspective?
“The design was created to evoke uncertainty about the song’s meaning. Nature operates in cycles, where destruction leads to renewal. It could symbolize the end of humanity or the beginning of something new.”
The video for “Your Future Died” will also be out on October 25th, and yet you’ve announced a new single already for later this year, “The Huntress”.
“Given the gap between “Visceral” and our upcoming music we decided to release two standalone singles. The next single is planned for release later this year, and it will include a music video to help promote it.” ■
