Like so many other bands, Brazilian symphonic metal band REVENGIN have a gap in their discography caused by Covid. Their last EP “Inner Dark” was released in 2020, followed by three singles in 2021 and then… nothing. Until 2024, when REVENGIN returned with a brand new single, “Circle Of Mistakes”, that is now followed by a new one, “Decadent Feeling”, out on October 28th. REVENGIN have signed a deal with Wormholedeath as well this year, so time to ask singer Bruna Rocha 5 questions about the new single, the new video and… the new album!
Questions by: Henk van Nieuwenhoven
Between the singles “When Fate Calls” and “Circle Of Mistakes” there’s a gap of three years. What happened?
“We had to deal with significant changes in the band and that includes new songs. The songs released between 2020 and 2021 would have composed the new album, but we were ‘forced’ to release them one by one, while we didn’t know how long the lockdown and the Coronavirus situation would take. Between 2021 and 2023 we had great opportunities to play live (in Argentina at the end of 2021, Rock In Rio in 2022 and a Brazilian tour in 2023) and finally in 2024 we signed with Wormholedeath and we could put all our focus on new songs.”
REVENGIN return with another single this year, “Decadent Feeling”. Can you explain the title?
“This song is about love and all this ‘little’ thing brings. It is about the internal battle between reason and emotion, and the anguish it causes.”
There’s going to be an official video for “Decadent Feeling” as well. Where did you record it?
“This is the first chapter of the story. We recorded it in a Paintball and Airsoft field in Rio de Janeiro, our hometown.”
What is the role of Xiang Li in all this?
“Xiang is the personification of breaking the paradigm concept, in my opinion. When we think about this, the first thing that comes to my mind is the word ‘love’. It’s something that we don’t have control over, we can’t explain it. And it doesn’t matter which religion, gender, country, culture and all that society sometimes tries to establish to us. How, who and when we would love. The video is a reflection of the fact that if we had in fact a world collapse, would those ‘rules’ still be important? What would they be worth?”
REVENGIN’s last album “Cymatics” dates back to 2012 already. Isn’t it time for a new full-length album?
“It is! We’re already finishing it! “Dark Dogma Embrace” will be released in early 2025!” ■
