To be honest, I had never heard of the Greek post-black metal band EUPHROSYNE from Athens. Until I found out that they are going to drop a new single Mitera” on November 22nd. A quick study on the omniscient The Metal Archives learned me that EUPHROSYNE have sporadically released a single from 2021 on, and one album Keres” in 2022. So let’s find out more about Miteraby asking singer Efi Eva 5 questions.

Questions by: Henk van Nieuwenhoven

There is confusion about the correct spelling of the title of EUPHROSYNE’s new single. The cover art says “Mitera”, the discography mentions “Mhtera” and the description on your Bandcamp page also speaks of “MHTEPA”. Which one is the common title?
“It’s totally logical, since the word comes from ΜΗΤΕΡΑ which means Mother in Greek. Mitera or Mhtera are almost the same, as they’re both Greek and have the same meaning. We could say that the official title is “Mitera”, with an i, but “Mhtera” can work too.”

“Mitera” handles about the first experience with the death of a very important person. Is it therefore by definition autobiographical?
“Absolutely, yes! Unfortunately, I can’t tell the whole story behind this, but only for now I can surely reveal that the loss of parents is foreshadowing the concept of our first full-length album that you’re going to learn more about soon!”

The lyrics of  “Mitera”  are in Greek. Does that give extra drama to the song compared to English?
“Hmm, I haven’t thought about it to be honest! I think singing in your native language is an extra for experiencing every emotion more intensely since it is more direct, but it doesn’t mean necessarily that it makes it more dramatic than English.”

Do you believe in the afterlife yourself?
“I wish this question would be easy to answer. There’s an emotional part of me that really hopes it exists and a more rational one that’s a big unbeliever.”

EUPHROSYNE’s album “Keres” will be physically available via Black Lion Records in March 2025. Are there going to be extras on the cd?
“We’re going to prepare something special for the very first physical release of “Keres”, but it will not be something like a special track rather than a more graphic thing. Also, the “Keres” physical release will be paired with our new album “Morus”, so I think a combination with both will be very interesting.”
