They’ve barely had time to unpack their suitcases from the recent tour with Kamelot, Ad Infinitum and Frozen Crown or the next adventure for Dutch alternative metal/gothic rock band BLACKBRIAR is just around the corner. The band have written enough songs for a new album that will be recorded soon. One of them, “Floriography”, was released today at midnight and the official music video will be out at 4pm today. We asked singer Zora Cock 5 questions about the new single.
Questions by: Henk van Nieuwenhoven
With the new single “Floriography” BLACKBRIAR have started the following chapter. When did you write the lyrics for this one?
“If I remember correctly, I wrote the lyrics last April and from then on, we started writing the song. With writing the lyrics, I had this video idea I was very enthusiastic about so we already knew this would be a single back then.”
“Floriography” means ‘the language of flowers’. Where did you get the knowledge of the arrangement and use of flowers?
“When I was writing the lyrics for “Floriography”, I started out thinking about all the different ways one could send out a secret message to someone. I did my research and came across this secret language of flowers, and I thought it was absolutely perfect. I bought this beautiful book about the subject and the rest is history.”
Floriography was mainly used in the Victorian era to send secret messages. You said that in your lyrics there may also be some. Can you give one example?
“Yes, I did mention that we might have left some secret messages for the fans. I could tell you, but then I’m afraid I’d have to kill you, so let’s not do that, shall we? Haha!”
The artwork for “Floriography” was again made by Alpino Alip Hudaya?
“It definitely is, yes! We’ve been working with him from the very start and will continue working with him always if it’s up to us! I think he’s a big part of creating this BLACKBRIAR universe with his beautiful artwork.”
BLACKBRIAR is working on a new album that will be recorded soon. Are you going to release more songs as a single during the recording process?
“We’re actually back in the studio today to finish up the pre-production stage of the album! The recording process will follow soon. As well as more singles, hopefully!” ■
